Previously named Saparmyrat Turkmenbasy International Airport after Turkmenistan’s first president Saparmyrat Niyazov, Ashgabat Airport (ASB) is one of the busiest international airports in the country today. It started operations in 1994 and shut down its operations for a while to reopen in 2016 with a new design and business model.
