Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport, also known as La Mesa International Airport, is an international airport located in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. It is the busiest and largest airport in the country, handling over 1 million passengers annually. The airport is named after Ramón Villeda Morales, who served as President of Honduras from 1957 to 1963. Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport is the largest airport in Honduras, located 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) southeast of the city of San Pedro Sula in the Cortés Department.
The airport was inaugurated in February 1965 and is the main hub for Avianca Honduras, Aerolineas Sosa, Spirit Airlines, and United Airlines. It is also the only airport in Honduras that offers direct flights to Europe, with Air Europa providing service to Madrid, Spain. The airport is well-connected to San Pedro Sula by taxi, bus, and shuttle service. The journey from the airport to the city center takes about 20 minutes.
