It serves as a gateway to Acapulco, a popular Mexican tourist destination. The airport is operated by Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA). In 2021, the airport handled 670,239 passengers, and in 2022 it handled 838,991 passengers. The airport is located 16 miles (26 km) south-southeast of Acapulco city center. It has two runways, one of which is 12,136 feet (3,700 m) long and the other is 7,874 feet (2,400 m) long.
